1206462482_4ef3a2b363_bI’m going to do a little editing of my own to a favorite passage (Romans 5:1-11, ESV).  See if this sounds at all like the modern day gospel (my changes are in italics).  I realize this shows how ridiculous a gospel of our own making sounds when comparing it to the gospel of our Lord Jesus delivered to the apostles—but that’s the point.  The reality is this: Man’s gospel doesn’t jive with the truth of God.  If we are going to re-write the gospel the possibilities are endless (don’t mind my sarcasm).

1 Therefore, since we have been justified by faith our works, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ righteous behavior2 Through him our good deeds we have also obtained access by faith our works into this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in hope of the glory of God our progress in becoming the nicest people we can be.
